Yiseul and Eric’s Vow Renewal at San Francisco City Hall

Yiseul and Eric had such a quiet ease about them — something that’s earned with ten years of marriage, probably. As they got ready for their day together in their hotel, I was taken by the effortless way they just understood each other; knowing what the other needed without having to say a single word, helping one another get dressed, not to mention the way they flipped between Korean and English like they weren’t even speaking two different languages at all.

To celebrate a decade of marriage, they invited their parents out to San Francisco to witness their vow renewal at the historic city hall. We found it surprisingly busy on a Tuesday morning, so the six of them huddled together on the top floor as they read their new promises to each other in their own native languages. Not a dry eye in the house, as you might imagine.

Afterwards, they headed off to Loquat, a bakery down the street where they shared a private breakfast (featuring the most stunning lemon rosemary tart I’ve ever seen!). They cut cake, opened a bottle of champagne and toasted to many more decades of marriage to come.
