In the Studio with Shaskia Cuaspa

Studio portraits with local artist Shaskia Cuaspa at her home in Phoenix, Arizona.

Shaskia Cuaspa, in her home studio.

This past month, I had the honor of getting to photograph Stacy at her home studio. Better known to the world as Shaskia, she is a talented painter, a loving mother, and effortlessly cool in every way.

Stacy’s pieces blow me away every single time (if painters could also be considered no-skip artists, she’s that to me), but I’m especially drawn to her signature portraits — a collection that was initially inspired by vintage photographs of her mother and grandmother. I love the way her paintings reflect the type of heirloom photos many of us have of our elders and loved ones, and her bold colors bring both fun and nostalgia to every piece she creates.

Thank you, Stacy for letting me into your space.

You can find her work on her website, or browse her collection at Wondering People.
